UCSF/SFGH Study on Medicaid coverage interruptions & hospitalization rates reported in NY Times

Andrew Bindman, MD

A new study by a UCSF-SFGH team regarding the link between disruptions in Medicaid coverage and increased hospitalizations was reported in the New York Times on December 16, 2008. The study found a higher rate of hospitalizations for common conditions—such as asthma, diabetes, and hypertension—that could be treated in a less costly primary care setting.  Andrew Bindman, MD, professor of medicine at UCSF and chief of general internal medicine at SFGH, is lead study author.
