UCSF experts weigh in, calm fears, on flu outbreak

UCSF infectious disease experts have been front-and-center in providing expert opinion and rational leadership in local media coverage of the swine flu outbreak, with interviews and TV footage featuring UCSF campuses at Parnassus, Mount Zion, China Basin and San Francisco General Hospital. Lawrence Drew, MD, and Charles Chiu, MD, PhD have led the response along with Lisa Winston, MD, hospital epidemiologist at SF General. All three are in the Department of Medicine’s Infectious Disease Division. Anti-viral therapeutics expert Conan MacDougall, PharmD, also joined in the response from the School of Pharmacy. Other UCSF experts quoted include George Rutherford, MD; Amy Nichols, RN, MBA; and Jay Tureen, MD.
