UCSF Children’s Hospital was featured on KTVU-TV in a story about severe combined immunodeficiency or SCID – a life-threatening genetic immune disorder. The story included interviews with Jennifer Puck, MD, a professor of immunology and pediatrics, and Morton Cowan, MD, director of UCSF’s Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Program. The story, which aired on February 19, 2009, emphasized the need to implement standard screening procedures for SCID soon after a child is born.
