KGO TV features UCSF iGem program and Lim lab

The UCSF team for the national iGem competition was featured on the July 8 nightly news on KGO TV. The program is run by Wendell Lim, PhD, professor of molecular and cellular pharmacology in the School of Pharmacy and the California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences (QB3), and involves Lincoln High students in the only high-school team in the nation.

This is the third year of the “international Genetically Engineered Machine” competition, in which the UCSF team will compete against college teams for innovative projects in synthetic biology. The first UCSF iGem team was among five finalists out of 55 teams; last year’s team won recognition for creating the “best new application” of all entrants. The KGO story includes interviews with Lim, as well as with iGem student Cathy Liu and Lincoln science teacher George Cacchianes.
