Frank McCormick

Frank McCormick has been the Director of the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center since its inception in 1998. He is an internationally renowned molecular biologist and cancer researcher.

Dr. McCormick has pioneered cancer research looking at the molecular basis of cancer and how genes, when mutated or expressed at high levels, help turn normal cells into cancer cells (oncogenes). Dr. McCormick easily navigates between the basic research lab and the biotech/pharmaceutical arenas. He founded a biotech company, Onyx Pharmaceuticals, and developed Nexavar, one of the first drugs based on how cancer cells actually work.
